CAA Appoints Metelus To Board, Announces Participation In Tuesday Blackout

Creative Artists Agency announced today that as a part of its ongoing efforts to promote diversity and inclusion it is appointing Lisa Joseph Metelus to the CAA Board and all CAA employees will observe “Blackout Tuesday” and be provided the opportunity to disconnect from work to promote accountability, change and meaningful action.

Metelus, currently co-head of basketball marketing and servicing, has been with CAA since 2011 and works with more than four dozen NBA players, including Dwayne Wade, Zion Williamson, Jaren Jackson, Jr., and Collin Sexton. She was also a crucial part of CAA Amp, a cultural strategy agency led by Dwayne Wade within CAA’s brand consulting division. 

“We have reached an inflection point for change in sports and entertainment. The need for inclusion of black voices in senior management level positions and board rooms is necessary for the progress of our industry and many other industries with global reach. It’s important that we reflect who we represent,” Metelus said in a statement. “This role allows me to bring my voice and perspective into the board room, to impact decision-making, drive new business development and continue advocating for our rising black leaders.”

Metelus joins Risa Gertner, Michael Levine, Emma Banks, Joe Cohen, Maha Dakhil, Paul Danforth, Michelle Kydd Lee, Joel Lubin, Sonya Rosenfeld, Rick Roskin, and Tiffany Ward on the CAA Board, its new management structure which has been responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations since January.

CAA is one of many entertainment industry companies participating in the “Blackout Tuesday” or #theshowmustbepaused event to promote awareness and action after the death of George Floyd in Minnesota and the subsequent protests and social unrest. 

The agency has also announced it plans on staging its fourth annual Amplify conference, which gathers leaders from entertainment, sports, media, brands, technology, and social justice around the theme of diversity.
