Assistant Project Manager

Position Objective

Collaborate closely with Operations on the technical build aspects of custom Modular Systems and installation. This position can be a career pathway to the Project Manager position.


Core Responsibilities

  1. Visualize and draw renderings into two and three-dimensional drawings of custom elements from current inventory as identified by Operations.
  2. Prepare project documentation as needed (drawings, test build plans, drawing redlines, quotes, etc).
  3. Maintain a highly collaborative relationship with Operations during the project process including partnering in estimating, project meetings, and vendor coordination.
  4. Conduct design feasibility studies to solve technical design problems including thorough prototyping, estimated material usage, and test build process.
  5. Quote cost of custom elements including labor and material for Account Managers.
  6. Research a variety of issues throughout the project process. Including answer questions on current products and how to use them safely and effectively.
  7. Source and procure specialty materials as needed including for manufacturing run of new products for product launches.
  8. Proactively engage in the full project process including supporting the Project Manager in working with the drafting team to ensure build drawings, CNC files, etc. are properly completed. 
  9. Work with the Floor Leads to review drawings and answer questions during the build process.
  10. Contribute to the development of a safety culture.


Organizational Relationships

This position reports to Program Manager and works closely with Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Drafter Detailers, Account Managers, Floor Leads, Floor Manager, and Directors. 


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient skills in VectorWorks or other CAD programs
  • Experience with set construction and rigging
  • Knowledge of theater terms and operations
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of materials
  • Team player with ability to collaborate cross functionally
  • Inquisitive with strong interpersonal skills and outstanding attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively
  • Excellent math and analytical skills
  • Strong research skills


Desired Credentials and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Scenic Design or related field OR 3 years of applicable experience for a scenic shop, entertainment company, theme park group or theatrical production company
  • Maintain a valid passport       


Physical Requirements

Those necessary for general office work as well as shop work that can include constructing and building custom projects.


Work Environment

  • Primarily office environment, with shop floor and warehouse environment.
