Introducing our April 2022 Roadies of Color United professional of the month Darrell Shines

Prior to opening Cosmic Studios on 2-22-2022, Darrell worked as the Production Manager for the historic Roseland Theater , PDX Jazz Festival and various freelance positions.Darrell recently took part in a Newport Jazz Festival Panel about backstage production hosted by Chris Funk which will soon air the Newport Jazz Fest festival website.
Over the years, he has worked for The World Wrestling Entertainment, MTV, VH1, Sony, The Lincoln Center, Central Park Summerstage and has toured in various capacities with Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears, NKOTB, NSYNC, Erykah Badu , DJ Logic’s Project Logic tour, Many jazz and Reggae bands well as working at the historic 930 Club, in Washington DC, The Justice League in San Francisco…and managed the historic I-BEAM nite club in San Francisco.
While working for Rock-it Cargo in New York, San Francisco and Paris France Darrell handled the logistics for countless touring bands including Metallica, Guns and Roses, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson ,Prince as well as the Indy 500, The NFL, The US Army, Cirque Du Soleil and many other clients worldwide.
Darrell was stage manager for the Nelson Mandela’s ANC fundraiser at Yankee Stadium in 1990, The Housing Now Rally on the National Mall in Washington DC in 1990 and has worked as a production manager for the Zanzibar International Film Festival in Zanzibar Tanzania and the first Kisima Music Awards in Nairobi,Kenya.
Darrell also co-founded the historic LAID BACK PRODUCTIONS in San Francisco which promoted some of the most memorable dance parties in the mid-90s.
Currently Darrell has his eyes set on creating and developing content at Cosmic Studios while managing up and coming artist Yawa Amenta, Santa Cruz production duo “Driftr and new Music Collective “ASHY BLACK ANKLES”.
Darrell has also created an internship program to provide young POC with all the necessary education, skills and tools required to earn a respectable living worldwide. He is currently mentoring two college students from Tanzania, Jospin and Japhety and as funds are raised will be taking on more interns to ultimately send on tours and events worldwide.
